This Week’s News: Releases

So, all I can say is that this week, we’ve been slack. It’s been my birthday, and John’s just got a new job, so we’ve been celebrating a little, and blogging a little less. We’re sorry.

But, now we’re back, with a vengeance!

This week has seen a number of new releases:

Pacific Storm: Allies

The long-awaited sequel to Pacific Storm; Pacific Storm: Allies expands upon the success of the internationally acclaimed original to deliver an unforgettable mix of real-time strategy and blistering arcade combat, recreating World War II’s most heated battles.

Pacific Storm: Allies is available for $9.99 or $15.99 along with it’s predecessor, Pacific Storm. Check out the trailer, here.

FlatOut & FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage

FlatOut Ultimate Carnage lifts destruction racing to a whole new level of bone-breaking slaughter. FlatOut Ultimate Carnage is arcade destruction racing at its best and most extreme with real world physics, three different game modes and offering players a wide variety of online and offline multiplayer options.

With a metascore of 78, if you’re into racing games, this is definitely one worth checking out. The pack is available now for $49.99, and you can check out the trailer here.

Tank Universal

Tank Universal creates a huge virtual ‘Tron-like’ world where you take part in immense 3D tank battles involving scores of units both friendly and not so friendly in wide open levels!

I’ll be honest, the trailer for this didn’t blow me away, however there is now a demo available so it just may be worth checking out, especially for the low price of $9.99. If you like the movie Tron, why not check it out?

Sega add three games to Steam

Today saw the release of three new games on Steam. Sega have released Space Siege, The Incredible Hulk, and Beijing 2008 for all of us Steam users.

With Metacritic Scores of 35 (Incredible Hulk) and 57 (Space Siege), and Beijing 2008 yet to be rated, these games don’t look like they’re anything to write home about, but if you’re interested in playing them, you can check out the trailers at the links above, and buy them for $49.99 a piece.

Pro Cycling Manager - Le Tour De France 2008

Today’s new releaseĀ  Pro Cycling Manager - Le Tour De France 2008.

Not much to say about this one… it’s a Simulation, and it seems that it’s a bit like Championship Manager for the cycling world. From the site:

With over 180 races, 65 official teams and 1,600 cyclists available, you’ll get to play the role of general manager and will have to handle all aspects of a professional team’s season. Manage well and build the most competitive team!

It’s available now, for $49.99, and if you need more persuading, perhaps the trailer can help you decide.

New Adventure Games from Frogwares

Two new games have been released by Frogwares and published by Focus Home Interactive.

Sherlock Holmes - Nemesis and Dracula Origin both fall into the Adventure genre and have a very respectible Metacritic Scores of 71 and 72. Both have a price tag of $35.99. Watch the trailers or play the demo’s below:

Releases! Settlers Galore!

The Settlers: Rise Of An Empire, The Settlers: Heritage of Kings and The Settlers Pack all hit Steam today. I wish I could tell you more than that but sadly Ubisoft hate me and anyone out side North America.

Enjoy this clip instead.

Last Week’s Releases

We’ve been a bit lax on the old release news this last week, mostly because we were too busy scouring every piece of E3 news trying to find the few tidbits of information relating to Steam.

Anyway, better late than never, here’s a rundown of the releases on Steam over the last week!

First up, the previously mentioned Planet Busters has released a demo. If you were unsure if you wanted to purchase this before, you now have a chance to test it out and see what you think.

Next, we have The Wonderful End of the World. Another casual and independent game, there is both a demo and a trailer for you to check out. From the trailer this certainly looks like an interesting game, and looks like it’s taken influences from Katamari and Da Blob. Pick it up now for $9.99.

Finally, we got Silverfall: Earth Awakening. Another RPG to add to the growing pile on Steam (no bad thing!), this is a standalone expansion to the original Silverfall. You can buy it on your own, or can get the complete package of both games for a very reasonable $35.99.

Updates and New Releases (in the USA)

This week has been a pretty busy one, what with a little expo known as E3 happening, but in between the lack of any Steam news, there have been a few updates and releases on the Steam network.

The releases are a collection of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Games; Warfighter, Desert Siege, Island Thunder, Advanced Warfighter 2 and the original Ghost Recon. These games are all well and good, and definitely worth checking out, however, I for one can’t play them… blame Ubisoft. Come on Ubisoft - please get it sorted!

As for the updates (which thankfully all can get), new fixes have been released for Garry’s Mod, Audiosurf, and Race 07.

First up, we have another new update for Garry’s Mod with the following fixes:

New Games! Elf Bowling & Sacred Gold

Not just any Elf Bowling, this is Elf Bowling HAWAIIAN VACATION - yeh! Elves that drink pina coladas while bowling on a volcanic island can be yours for $9.99.

If the announcement of Diablo III had you jonesing for some hack and slash action then Diablo clone Sacred might be what you need. Sacred Gold Edition is now on Steam for $9.99.

Children of the Nile: Enhanced Edition Released

Children of the Nile: Enhanced Edition has survived the mummification process and emerged from the Steam tomb priced at $19.99. It’s a city builder ala Ceaser and Sim City except the pyramid and sphynx count is way up.
