Valve Getting Into the Game Controller Business?

Props to Steam Review for gleaming this gem from an IGN interview with Doug Lombardi. As if you didn’t have enough controllers cluttering up the place it would seem Valve are eager to launch a new pad.

The device would be released to cater for those games on Steam that play better on a game pad. Lombardi specifically cites Everyday Shooter as a prime example and I would definitely agree, the genre is called ‘twin stick shooter’ for a reason.

Whether or not the pad is needed with the wide proliferation of 360 controllers out there remains to be seen, but by having a Steam branding in the hardware market it could certainly raise the awareness of Steam and PC gaming in general.

Everyday Shooter Hits Steam

Well this one caught me by surprise. Everyday Shooter makes its PC debut today on Steam for the highly reasonable price of $8.99. Formerly a PS3 exclusive on the Playstation Network, it puts an artisitc spin on the twin stick shoot genre (Geometry Wars, Mutant Storm, Super Stardust) by mixing in wild graphics and a soundtrack created by your actions in the game. To get an idea of what the game is like I highly recommend watching this clip taken from The 1UP Show last year (of course this is the PS3 version).

UPDATE: A new video trailer has been released on Steam. It doesn’t tell you anything not mentioned in the video above, but it’s worth a mention.
